TECH TALK

Summerstress in Machines

The summer months bring more than just sunshine. For machines and vehicles, this often means additional thermal stress. High ambient temperatures combined with intensive use can lead to accelerated wear, oxidation, and even failure of vital components. Especially during this period, choosing the right lubricant is essential.

What does heat do to lubricants?

As temperatures rise, the stress on lubricants increases significantly. In practice, we observe the following, among other things:

– Loss of viscosity → lubrication becomes less effective
– Faster oxidation → formation of deposits and sludge
– Evaporation or drying → greases lose their effectiveness
– Shorter service life → more frequent replacement needed

Zonder goede bescherming kan dit leiden tot oververhitting van lagers, vastlopende componenten of onvoorziene stilstand.

How do you prevent summer-related problems?

At Synmar, we have been helping customers for years to prevent seasonal wear and breakdowns. Our tips:

1. Choose thermally stable products
Use lubricants that are specifically designed to maintain their lubricating properties at higher temperatures. Think about:

– High-quality hydraulic oils with improved oxidation stability
– Engine and transmission oils with a high viscosity index
– Greases that withstand higher temperatures for bearings and chains

2. Critically analyze your applications
Not every machine is subjected to the same load. In a hot environment, components can become even hotter locally than the ambient air. Contact us to conduct a risk assessment for each application together.

3. Avoid over-lubrication
‘More lubrication helps’ is a myth. Overdosing can even have adverse effects in high temperatures. Prefer choosing the right product, at the right time, in the right amount. Also note that at higher temperatures, the lubrication interval may be shorter, requiring more frequent lubrication or replacement to ensure optimal performance and protection.

Synmar thinks along with you.

At Synmar, we do more than supply – we provide advice. We help you:
– Choose the right products for summer conditions
– Switch to alternatives with a longer service life
– Create a preventive maintenance plan for the warmer months

Don’t let machines sweat this summer. Keep them running
